Jamie Kantrowitz has been at the heart of the digital media industry in Los Angeles since 1999, having built diverse experience in entrepreneurship, investing and civic leadership through her work in the technology, politics and nonprofit sectors. Kantrowitz is a Venture Partner at Mesa Ventures, an early stage investor based in Los Angeles and New York. Formerly she was a Partner at Launchpad LA, a leading startup accelerator in Southern California. In 2012 she was an advisor to the CTO for President Barack Obama’s digital campaign operations. 

 

Jamie brings to investing a background in founding, scaling, and operating both start-ups and large global organizations. She has a passion for building communities as well as deep expertise connecting new technologies with global audiences. Before entering professional investing Jamie co-founded LA-based Gobbler, a software company building simple but powerful cloud collaboration tools for media creators. She counts more than 25 LA-based startups in her portfolio. 

 

As an operator and entrepreneur Jamie has always been focused on growth. From 2003-2009 Jamie held various senior roles at MySpace where she joined the founding team and started the Marketing and Entertainment divisions, including MySpace’s storied music platform. She then led the company’s international expansion into over 20 countries ranging from the UK to India to Australia as EVP, Global Marketing + Entertainment based in London, UK. For her work at MySpace, she was recognized as one of Billboard Magazine’s “30 under 30” list, The Guardian 100, and was honored in Ad Age’s “Top 50 Marketers.” Jamie also served as the company’s international ambassador and has spoken at such global events as the World Economic Forum, Le Web, the Aspen Institute and Midem.

 

Jamie initially found her passion for empowering people with new technology products through her experiences in both digital media and politics. In 2004 as the Digital Director at Rock the Vote, she led development of the first ever web-based and mobile voter registration tools which drove over 1.2 million young people to civically activate. Prior to Rock the Vote Jamie was an aide and Deputy Finance Director for New York Governor Andrew Cuomo during his 2002 gubernatorial bid. This role stemmed from her experience as a business strategist at KPE, a digital agency that developed strategy for media and lifestyle companies as well as political campaigns. 

 

Jamie served as a Board Director for Soundcloud, the web’s leading audio platform, and is a passionate advocate for youth and women’s issues, serving as an advisor for I am That Girl and The Venice Boys and Girls Club. She is an active supporter of Kristen Gillibrand’s “Off the Sidelines” Campaign. She has served on the advisory board of the Creative Capital Fund, which helps talented entrepreneurs in London’s creative industries, and SeedCamp, a program created to jumpstart the entrepreneurial community in Europe by connecting next generation developers and entrepreneurs with a top-tier network of company builders. Currently she also mentors at LA accelerators Amplify and Disney Techstars.
